Goals

So I'm pretty bad at setting New Year's resolutions. I never stick to them...halfway through the year I can't even remember what they were.

I went up to bed the other night and the hubby had "It's me or the Dog" on, I'm a huge Animal Planet fan...so I had to watch how Victoria would change the behavior of a rambunctious english bulldog. I realized that Jax is very much like this bulldog...he's hyper, pulls on his leash and aggressive towards other dogs (well not so much aggressive, more crying/screeching/whinning when he can't get near them). She was using the "clicker" method...where you "click and treat" the dog for good behavior.

This made me decide that my Goal (a better word than resolution for me) was to make Jax a polite member of doggy society by this summer. He LOVES being outside, he LOVES going for walks and he absolutely LOVES swimming. We took him camping with us last summer and quickly realized that he has no manners at all. He would pull while we walked, escaped his harness on several occasions to chase other dogs, stole the football from our neighbors while knocking over their kids in the process, etc. He had very very bad manners.

So for the rest of the winter we are going to work on basic commands with the clicker in hopes that he will be a little more manageable by spring. Then we'll work on taking him to more public places. Lulu on the other hand hated the whole camping experience. She did NOT like being dirty, getting wet or being around people. She may stay home with a sitter next year.

I HAVE to accomplish this Goal...because He is my motivation...

I heard great things about the clicker!

Ahh and cutest motivation everrrrr. That pic made me smile. I'm a sucker for dogs in human clothing.

You can do it!! With my current doggy situation, I wish I had spent more time training him because it is really hard to keep him calm and not jumping!!

I'll be routing for you. Walker is not the politest member of dog or people society either. He likes to "nibble" on people's toes. He chases other living things...bikes...mopeds...probably cars if given the occasion. Good luck and I can't wait to here how clicker training goes.

Good luck. It's amazing how smart they can be when they catch on that say only Mommy does the punishing but Daddy lets them get away with anything.

Just like kids in furry sweaters.

I have seen her show before. I don't know if you've ever read my posts about my dogs but my beagle was a rescue dog and he has issues.

He won't walk on a leash very well. Also, my poodle won't come when she's called. I need to work with both animals. After all, it's not like I have anything else to do, lol!
